Show up.
That may be the best piece of advice we can give. And showing up is certainly the cause for continued success in the case of clothing designer and Fair Media Council member Janine Giorgenti.
In her own words:
‘A year ago I sponsored the Fair Media Council’s Connection Day. I met Joe Dowd, who was a panelist at the event. I introduced myself to him and told the panel what I do. He said I had passion and an interesting story to tell. I met him again at this year’s Connection Day. Now he was editor at Long Island Business News. I sent him the article I wrote for the Fair Media Council’s website. He was impressed! Now I am a monthly columnist for Long Island Business News. So far, I’ve written two articles that have been published.’
At this time, most people would’ve figured, “That’s good enough.” But Giorgenti exhibits one of the timeless traits of a successful businessperson — persistence — so she continues to show up at Fair Media Council events.
Her philosophy is simple: Let’s see what can happen. And this is what happened with Giorgenti at the Fair Media Council’s Connection Day, 2015:
“I met nationally syndicated radio show host, Frank MacKay, who was a speaker on the talk show panel. That was in October. In December, he interviewed me on his radio show, Breaking it Down.”
For anyone that’s interested in getting in the news, Giorgenti advises to become an active member in the Fair Media Council. Again, in Giorgenti’s own words: ‘If it had not been for the Fair Media Council, I would not have had these fabulous opportunities.’
