FMC Earns Public Service & Activism Award

FMC Earns Public Service & Activism Award

The Fair Media Council’s signature event, The News Conference: Real & Powerful, has earned a 2022 Communicator Award for Virtual and Remote events in the Public Service & Activism category from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA).

The News Conference: Real & Powerful brings together the best in journalism to take the public behind the scenes in news today, with exclusive conversations and insider access. It’s an opportunity to a greater understanding of current events and how news decisions are made — it’s all part of FMC’s mission to create a media-savvy society so the public can navigate today’s complicated media landscape with ease. The News Conference is a must-attend for news junkies, influencers, leaders, advocates, academics, spokespeople, marketing, public relations and branding experts, journalists and students.

The 2021 event, which earned AIVA’s Communicator Award of Distinction, featured four days of discussions with acclaimed journalists, academics and communication professionals engaging in panel discussions ranging from news forecasts to talks on the state of the presidency and journalism inside the Beltway.

“The most amazing people take part in The News Conference,” said Jaci Clement, CEO & Executive Director of the Fair Media Council. “Bringing expert sources and distinguished journalists together creates an atmosphere that embraces audience questions. They really want to know what’s on peoples’ minds and how they can help them excel at being critical news consumers.”

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 event was held as a virtual event for the first time. The four-day schedule of The News Conference: Real & Powerful 2021 revolved around themes for the day, beginning with how local news stories become national stories and ending with how national news turns local. A deep dive into politics, climate change,  and the American presidency rounded out the agenda.
