Now that the election is over, we get to relive it as the media and its critics hash it out over what went right, oh-so wrong and pointedly, how the media failed to tap the pulse of the American public.
If there’s one thing that stands out, it’s this: The rise of fake news and its impact on democracy; the public’s inability to distinguish the real stuff from the fake stuff, and the (real) news industry’s failure to position itself accordingly in today’s media landscape.

Jumping the Gun

Altice has been fined 80 million euro for regulatory irregularities in France related to one of its acquisitions, and is now reportedly looking to dump some of its press outlets there.

On the hyperlocal news front, East Hampton gets itself a new radio station — owned and operated by two college students.
The format of WELJ is expected to be announced at the end of the year. Here’s hoping they shake things up.
