Thank You, Judy Jacobs

She served, right up until the end.

By all accounts, serving was what Judy Jacobs was made of.

Her unexpected passing this week gives way to a legacy, one that may only be built by continuous dedication and caring throughout the years. She touched people and lives in countless ways, and imprinted upon Nassau County the true meaning of public service. That spirit, and the woman who embodied it, will be sorely missed.

Judy Jacobs served in the Nassau County Legislature since it was created in 1996.

The Fair Media Council Board of Directors, members and staff remember Judy Jacobs fondly, and thank her for a lifetime devoted to improving the lives of others.

Fair Media Council Board Member Chris Wright recalls:

I met Judy Jacobs in 1987, when she was in her third term in office and I was entering my first term.

Judy was my best friend in government and one of the nicest people I’ve ever known.

She was a tireless public servant who always led with, “Is this the right thing to do?”, and she made a tremendous and positive impact on everyone on whose behalf she worked.

She was beloved by her constituents, and with good reason. And, most importantly, she was a great example of what and who an elected official, a mother and a grandmother can and should be. She will be missed, and irreplaceably so. RIP dear friend.

This, from Terry Lynam, Fair Media Council Board Member and Senior Vice President & Chief Public Information Officer at Northwell Health, where Jacobs served as director of community relations:

Judy Jacobs seemed to be omnipresent. Few elected officials were as genuinely dedicated to serving their constituents, and nobody had a better handle on the pulse of the voters. She was also one of the nicest individuals I’ve ever met. A class act.

And from Kevin Kelly, Fair Media Council Board Member, Co-President of BigBuzz Marketing Group and resident of Plainview:

She was a Long Island treasure. Kind and giving and would go to bat for Long Islanders and listen to everyone. The kids remember her for always being at their awards ceremonies. She will be missed.

Our thoughts are with her family and her brilliant spirit.

FMC extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Judy Jacobs. May she rest in peace.
