The Public Has Judged The News

The public has judged the news entries in the Fair Media Council’s annual Folio Awards. Now the tabulation to determine the winners is getting under way.

We thank this year’s incredible collection of community leaders and good people who represent the Long Island public and judge the news, a public service that truly impacts the community and works to keep Long Island informed.

The Fair Media Council’s Folio Awards gives the ultimate news critic — the public — the ability to judge the news and send a strong message back to newsrooms around the region on how well they are covering the community. This ‘green-light ethics’ program focuses on showing the news media what it’s doing well, by awarding well-crafted stories that tap the pulse of the public for relevance, importance and need.

About five years ago, the FMC Folio Awards were expanded to include social media campaigns, too. The criteria for entry are campaigns that enlighten and inform, as opposed to being strictly promotional.

The Fair Media Council is one of the oldest, most successful media watchdogs in the country. FMC advocates for quality local news and works to create a media savvy society.
