JIVE, New FMC Mascot & Secretary of Defense

The Fair Media Council, one of the oldest and most successful media watchdog organizations in the county, made a bit of history this week by appointing a mascot for the first time in its history. (FMC was founded in 1979.)

At the annual meeting of the FMC Board of Directors, a purebred German Shepherd Dog named Jive was ratified — along with a new slate of directors for the 2015-16 term — as the organization’s official mascot and secretary of defense.

“In people years, Jive is just now old enough to join the organization,” said FMC CEO Jaci Clement, noting the state stipulates a member of the board of directors must be at least 18 years old.

Owned by Clement, Jive is often at the FMC office and will gladly pose for photographs with FMC members and visitors. Jive publishes a daily newspaper, Chew On This, the voice of pets everywhere, and has his own Twitter and Facebook accounts. The son of champion show dogs, Jive is extremely proud of his siblings who compete in the ring. Most recently, his brother Cowboy earned a title at the 2015 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Jive’s appointment was by unanimous decision of the Fair Media Council’s Board of Directors.

When not in the office, Jive enjoys running on the beach, chasing squirrels and summering on Fire Island. Born in York, Penn. at Stuttgart Kennels, he moved to Huntington, Long Island when he was three months old.
