Watch List: Lots of Changes

SUKI’s Saying Goodbye: WPIX’s Sukanya Krishnan (center) with FMC CEO Jaci Clement & Scott Stanford at Folio 2017

AHEAD OF THE CURVE
While news of Long Island’s gang violence now has hit a fevered pitch, it was Frank Mackay — waaaaaay back in 2014 — who was raising awareness of the seriousness of the issue on his talk show, Turning Point with Frank Mackay, which airs on LI News Radio, among other places. His efforts paid off: He took home a Folio Award for Best Talk Show in 2015. Listen to it here.

A VOTRE SANTE
Wishing a quick and speedy recovery to former Long Island Business News boss and now captain of  InnovateLI, John Kominicki.
CHANGES, LOTS OF CHANGES
The face of WPIX, Sukanya Krishnan, has announced she’ll be leaving the station after 17 years. Her fans are legion, and if you met her at Folio, you know why.
FiOS 1 News’ Money & Main St. maven Giovanna Drpic is now at CBS46 in Atlanta. Wishing her great success there.
Oh, and that guy Bill O-something is out (as is Fox News’ co-prez and Long Islander, Bill Shine), but that news pales in comparison to the announcement that Jed Morey has handed his baby, the Long Island Press, over to Schneps Communications. The alternative publication brought a strong voice, energetic style and irreverent spirit to the often (yawn) sleepy media out here in the ‘burbs. Like all good brands, it reflected the personality of its owner. And that’s what makes this change quite a challenge for the new guys, who hail from that silly little county west of here. (You know, the one Long Islanders refuse to recognize as being part of Long Island?) But then again, maybe they’ll use that outsider status to continue the tradition of tilting at windmills. Fingers crossed.

THAT’S A LOT OF PIZZA
