How to Enter Folio Awards

what's new

National (“National”) and New York metro regional (“Regional”) news stories are accepted, as are Long Island (“Local”) news stories. National and Regional news stories do NOT need to have a Long Island news component.

Student categories are now separate from the professional categories. Please note student submissions must have been broadcast or published during the 2019 calendar year.

A tiered-fee system is now in place to encourage early submission.

Choose the proper Category

We offer news and social media categories, which vary in entry requirements. Please be sure to choose the proper category.

Who can enter?

Everyone: Professionals, freelancers & students.

Who judges?

Dozens of former journalists & community leaders use FMC’s specially designed scorecard judging method, which emphasizes quality as well as relevance to the public.

News entry requirements

News stories must have been broadcast or published during the 2019 calendar year to be eligible. Stories must be as originally appeared — no composites, no editing after the fact to spiff it up for the judges. National, regional and Long Island local news stories are eligible.

Social media entry requirements

Social media campaigns that do good or have a public service component are eligible. (Campaigns that are strictly promotional are not eligible.) Campaigns that ran during the 2019 calendar year are eligible. Judges want to see quantitative results of campaigns.

why enter

The Folio Awards serve as a litmus test, to see if you are tapping the pulse (and the interest) of the public with your news and social media campaigns.

We like to say winning a Folio is where critical acclaim meets box office success. For news stories, winning a Folio illustrates quality journalism that is relevant to the public. If a story has demonstrable impact, be sure to include that in your entry.

For social media, campaign creative isn’t enough; quantitative results to illustrate the campaign’s impact is needed.

preparing to enter

The information that appears on your entry form will be used in published materials, should your entry win, so be sure to check your entry BEFORE you hit that send button. There will be no preview screen.

Be sure to have correct spelling of names and titles, proper name of story or campaign to be entered, and publication or broadcast dates.

Social media categories require brief synopses of the strategy and goals behind the campaigns. This is not needed for news entries.

Entry Fees

Entry fees apply. If entering the same story or campaign in more than one category, a fee applies for each category.
