About the Folio Awards 2021 Program

The live-via-Zoom Folio Awards program was expertly and joyfully hosted by news personalities Sukanya Krishnan and Scott Stanford of the Suki & Scott Show, which airs on Facebook. Joining Suki and Scott were two talented news personalities, Lynda Lopez, WCBS Newsradio 880 news anchor, and Dari Alexander, WNYW FOX 5 news anchor, who announced the award winners.

A highlight of the program was a behind-the-headlines chat with the Newsday investigative team that brought to life the stunning multimedia report, The Grumman Plume: Decades of Deceit. Those joining us live on Zoom had the opportunity to ask Newsday’s Jeff Basinger, Paul LaRocco and David Schwartz questions via the Q&A box. Fair Media Council CEO & Executive Director Jaci Clement moderated the chat, and even had the journalists offer advice to the journalism students watching the show.

A salute to the hard-working Folio Awards judges, all of whom volunteer their time, was included in the show, which was dedicated to two longtime Fair Media Council Board members, James Kinney and Terry Lynam, both of whom have retired after many years of volunteering their time, resources and support to turn FMC into the organization it is today.

The Folio Awards program was made possible, in part, by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Northwell Health, Mount Sinai South Nassau, St. Joseph’s College, Hofstra University, WSHU Public Radio, Long Island Business News, Robert B. Catell, Synchronicity Planning & Communications, Edgewise Energy, Mazars, WNET/WLIW and the Suki & Scott Show.

The Folio Difference

The Folio Awards recognize quality news on the hyperlocal Long Island, New York City regional and National levels. The judging process helps create discerning news consumers while providing important feedback to news creators. Judging panels are comprised of former journalists and community leaders to ensure the winning news stories are quality works of journalism that resonate with its audience for its authenticity. All are eligible to enter. Social media campaigns, ever growing in their influence as part of the public conversation, are also recognized by the Folio Awards. Campaigns that educate, inform and inspire may be entered by anyone, anywhere.
