President & CEO Family Service LeagueBiographical Info
Karen Boorshtein joined Family Service League (FSL) in 1993 and she has been with this leading Long Island non-profit human service organization for 27 years. Prior to being appointed President and CEO in 2009, Karen was FSL Chief Operating Officer and Associate Executive Director. Under her leadership, FSL’s annual budget has consistently increased and is presently posed to be at $60 million in 2019.
Karen’s ability to develop alliances with other community-based organizations strengthens FSL’s ability to reach deep into our LI communities by providing vital programs. She forged a strong relationship with Northwell Health and recently broke ground on the innovative Fay J. Lindner Health & Wellness Center. This unique model will offer the full integration of mental health care, substance addiction treatment, pharmacy needs, and primary care medicine. FSL also partners with many LI school districts to provide needed support to students and their families. Currently, Karen and the Leadership Team is spearheading the first 24/7/365 crisis stabilization center on LI. FSL’s Diagnostic, Assessment, and Stabilization Hub (DASH) which is a multi-faceted program that offers assessments, counseling, and care management intervention. Karen’s leadership of FSL and her commitment to improving the lives of people on Long Island is unparalleled.
Karen holds leadership roles in Long Island organizations whose activities complement the mission of FSL. These include the current positions of President of Advanced Health Network (which leads 40+ not for profit member agencies), Board Member of the Suffolk Collaborative, a Junior League of Long Island Community Advisory Board member, and a graduating member of the Energeia Partnership. In 2017, she was a speaker at the Alliance for Children and Families National Conference. Under her leadership, FSL has continually been nationally accredited by the Council on Children and Family Agencies, in 2018 was awarded the Top LI Workplace honor, recognized by the HIA-LI with the Non-Profit Leadership Award, and she is a 2019 Finalist for the Cerini Imagine Leadership Award.
