There should be a Fair Media Council in every town across America. - Dan Rather

What They Say.
With the proliferation of media sources, legitimate and otherwise, comes the requirement for greater public knowledge and introspection into the news and its sources. The need for a Fair Media Council should be happening across our country. We are so very fortunate to have such a resource and forum on Long Island and in the New York metropolitan area.
At a time when the media landscape is shifting daily, the need for the Fair Media Council has never been greater.
Whether protecting the interests of working journalists or exploring ways to keep media companies viable, FMC is out there advocating daily — always vigilant to the need for balanced, quality news coverage.
More than ever before, we need media watchdogs to keep a check on reporters and news content but to praise them as well. Our First Amendment is often attacked by politicians and pundits, and the Fair Media Council is one of its protectors and supporters. FMC also serves as an educator, making media literacy a priority in a world invaded by false news and opinion-based content. The Fair Media Council is vital, important and essential!
Fair Media Council is now more important than ever in our Internet-based reality which is often far from the truth. Look no further than the work of intrepid reporter Julie Brown of the Miami Herald whose steely determination was the only means by which sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein was held accountable when government officials and powerful people looked the other way or covered up. Fair Media may be our only hope to hold them accountable as well.
Nonprofits like Family and Children’s Association (FCA) often lack the resources to tell our stories as broadly and richly as we’d like. FMC helps us do that by giving our staff the information, skills, and relationships necessary to tell those stories via television, radio, print and social media. That exposure draws donors, volunteers, new staff and helps us reach our neighbors in need. We’ve been proud members of FMC for as long as I can remember and it’s been among our best investments.
Fair Media Council is the essential group that brings media decision makers, PR professionals and the business community together.
If you’re looking to learn a new skill, make a new connection or grow your network, this is the “can’t miss” organization.
Fair Media Council and Executive Director Jaci Clement remain one of the few true independent voices in the not for profit world.
In a time where regional media has increasingly become partisan and local media sources are diminishing FMC’s role in providing access, fairness and working in the public interest is critical. We need someone to “judge the judges” in the media world and FMC over their long history of service has more than met that task.
