Christian Guardino, the 17-year-old from Long Island, and AMERICA’S GOT TALENT semifinalist received Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer this season. Now, he’s slated to kick off the Fair Media Council’s Dec. 5 major event, “The News Conference: Real & Powerful.”
“A humble kid walked out on the stage and stole people’s hearts,” said Jaci Clement, Fair Media Council Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director. “We’re based on Long Island and privileged to showcase Christian’s tremendous talent. He brings pride to his hometown and represents the best of his generation. But he also has to get to school that day, so you need to be at the breakfast to meet him.”
Guardino will sing at the breakfast of the Dec. 5 conference, where hundreds of media, business and community leaders will participate in the day-long event aimed at fostering open dialogue between the media and the public, while building understanding and respect. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the iconic Garden City Hotel, and includes 12 panel discussions on the state of news and current events, luncheon with two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Walt Handelsman, networking and exhibitors. Tickets are on sale now.

The young man is in great demand: He won the 2014 Grand Prize at the Apollo Theater’s “Amateur Night at the Apollo: Stars of Tomorrow.” He has since returned many times as a guest performer and also performed at the New York Stock Exchange Opening Bell and sang the national anthem at a New York Islanders playoff game. In November, he had the honor of performing for Michelle Obama’s Fit 2 Celebrate Gala in Washington D.C., where he sang a duet with Jordin Sparks. Guardino also appeared on “Showtime at the Apollo.”
Guardino’s story was featured in a recent edition of National Geographic, which explained how he overcame blindness. He can be seen on Oct. 9 in the Columbus Day Parade red carpet performance on WABC channel 7 and live in concert at the World Famous Apollo Theater on Dec. 8 in their annual Holiday concert.
The Fair Media Council advocates for quality news and creates a media savvy society. It’s a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 1979.
