The Fair Media Council advocates for quality news and works to create a media-savvy society. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, FMC is one of the oldest, most successful media watchdogs in the country. Businesses and nonprofit organizations that place an emphasis on corporate responsibility comprise our membership, which currently tops 110,000 people.
Throughout the year, FMC offers programming to take the news consumer behind the scenes in news, to gain an understanding of the news ecosystem, how it works and why it’s so important for news to be strong on the hyperlocal, regional, and national levels. Our work to bridge the ever-widening gap between the news media and the public it serves focuses on building mutual understanding and respect.
FMC signature events include the Folio Awards, honoring the best in news, social media and podcasting; The News Conference: Real & Powerful, a comprehensive program that brings leading news editors, reporters and anchors to talk to the public about news today; FMC Fast Chat, our podcast featuring notables in news, media and business for 30-minute conversations, and FMC Primary Sources Speaker Series, bringing thought leaders and influencers to our audience for discussions to help organizations work smarter and succeed faster.
Media commentary by Jaci Clement, FMC CEO and Executive Director, looks at trends in news, as well as how changes in the media landscape impact your right to know. Tips are also often provided to help you navigate today’s complicated media landscape with ease.
Due to the nature of our work, our membership represents an incredibly diverse array of organizations by industry, size, and location. Any organization seeking to improve its communication may benefit by joining the Fair Media Council. Those that place a premium on media relations will find many opportunities in FMC programming to help them achieve their goals.
