Signature Events

  • Connection Day
The largest conference in the region (possibly, in the country) that brings the media together with the public for a day of open dialogue. The purpose is to facilitate news coverage of issues important to the community.

  • FMC New Jersey Connection Day                                       This new, half-day event is designed to bring the northern New Jersey media out to meet the public and establish an open dialogue to facilitate news coverage of issues important to the community.
  • FMC Folio Awards
Honoring excellence in local news and social media. The awards program is adjudicated by community leaders to choose news relevant to the community, well told and impeccably crafted.
  • FMC Get Media Savvy Breakfast Series
Get the scoop on what's happening inside newsrooms all around us. The discussion is off the record, and a talk-show format encourages plenty of audience participation.
  • FMC Media Fix Workshop Series
  • Cutting-edge communication skills are introduced in this hands-on workshop series designed specifically for small business and nonprofit organizations to learn new ways to grow.

  • FMC Media Savvy KIDS
We take kids full circle, so they can go inside the news process, then evaluate the news based on what they’ve learned. In addition to introducing children to media as a possible career choice, the Media Savvy KIDS program encourages the development of deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  • FMC Media Savvy Teacher Award

Designed to recognize 4th, 5th and 6th grade teachers who are using news and promoting media literacy inside their classrooms.  Teachers anywhere in the United States may enter.  Entries must explain the idea or concept behind the program, how the concept was implemented and how results were measured.  Entries are due by June 15, 2010, and will be judged by community leaders.  Winners will be recognized with the Fair Media Council designating the winning school as a Fair Media Council Media Savvy School.  Additionally, winning entries will be compiled into an online idea bank for teachers around the country.
