Be The Media and the Fair Media Council present a half-day social media boot camp on Nov. 18 at Briarcliffe College, Bethpage, N.Y. Six workshops are offered; attendees choose two, an early morning and mid-morning session. The event also includes continental breakfast with networking and keynote remarks. Registration begins at 7.30 a.m. The event concludes by 12 noon.

Session I:

a)       From Press Releases to Audience Engagement: As technology evolves and audiences becomemore fragmented, savvy communicators must adjust to the changing landscape.Today, getting a message out relies on a incorporating a variety of online andoffline communication tools. Here’s what you need to know to stay current.

b)       How to Begin Using Social Media: The best communicators think backwards. By that we mean you must envision your outcome before you design your communication plan. This workshop covers what you need to consider before you venture into social media.

c)       Can You Hear Us Now? Using Social Media in Politics and Advocacy: It’s never been harder to get Albany’s attention, but with the right tools and techniques, you can make sure that the decision makers hear you, loud and clear.

Session II:

a)       Defining Influence in the Digital World: The internet offers many opportunities for you to establish yourself as an expert in your field of endeavor. Are you taking advantage of what the web has to offer? What more should you do to increase your Klout? Find out here.

b)       Managing Your Reputation Online: The good news? People can talk about you online. The bad news? People can talk about you online. This panel will discuss tips and techniques to protect your name and your organization.

c)       What We’re Doing Right Now: Local companies share where they are on the digital food chain, what they’ve learned, and what they plan to do next.

Tickets are $85 for FMC members; $110 for nonmembers. Walk-ins add $10 at the door. Tickets are nonrefundable.
